We have included this film in our program to illustrate the work and contributions of our star Marceline Day.

"The Hansom Cabman" is a nice Mack Sennett short comedy starring Harry Langdon and a charming 16 year young Marceline Day.

Harry wakes up with a bad hangover from the night before.  It turns out that today he supposed to get married, but when his fiancée Marceline Day calls him on the phone,  he can't pull himself together and goes back to bed.  He is in for a rude awakening, however, as an unfamiliar woman shows up in his bedroom and declares that she is his wife.  His butler confirms that they got married the night before.

Marceline Day has a bad feeling about the situation and she brings her mother to deal with Harry.  He really can't remember anything about last night.  Then he and his would-be wife have a little scuffle, she cries "wife beater" and Harry gets arrested and put in jail.

By a trick of circumstance the judge that presides on the bail hearing is Marceline Day's father.  He, of course, is in no mood to release the suspect, and Harry goes back to jail.  Mysteriously he is able to escape and goes undercover as a cab driver.

In the meantime the would-be wife confesses that the alleged matrimony of the night before never happened and was a scheme arranged by the butler.  Marceline Day is relieved, her father makes a call to have Harry released from jail, but he is nowhere to be found.

The film enjoys a very "hansom" rating in IMDB.
