Trusted Site Seal

Dear Silent Hall of Fame Users:

You have come to this website, because you like silent films and silent movie stars.  There are many places like this.  But unlike other sites, here at Silent Hall of Fame you can make a real difference.  You can help us show for the first time many films featuring your favorite silent stars that have not been seen in generations.  This will bring their names back into the public discourse.  But you can do much more than that: you can help your favorite silent stars receive belated recognition and glory.

Until now there has never been an organization with the purpose to place a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for movie personalities from a century ago.  Silent Hall of Fame is this historic organization.  Silent Hall of Fame is the only organization of its kind.  We will make history and we invite you to become a part of history by sponsoring a silent movie star for the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  All contributions are tax deductible.

Please use this button for a one-time donation. Use the button on the right-hand side for a recurring donation.

Alice Day and Joe Young in Gooseland 1926 new

Alice Day and Joe Young in "Gooseland" (1926).  The only copy of the film in the whole world is being kept in the UCLA archive.

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO THE UCLA TO RELEASE COPIES OF RARE FILMS TO SILENT HALL OF FAME OR MAKE THESE FILMS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC.

The UCLA preserves in their archives many quality silent films featuring our stars Billy Bitzer, Alice Day, Marceline Day, Snitz Edwards, Helen Gibson, Robert Harron, Helen Holmes, Jack Hoxie, Arthur V. Johnson, Florence La Badie, Florence Lawrence, Shirley Mason, John S. Robertson, Patsy Ruth Miller and Florence Turner.

These films have not been seen by the classic movie lovers in almost a century.  Silent Hall of Fame wishes to work together with the UCLA in order to make these films available to the public.

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO THE UCLA TO RELEASE COPIES OF THE RARE FILMS TO SILENT HALL OF FAME OR MAKE THESE FILMS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC.

Silent Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization, is committed to preserving the legacy of silent movie stars.  We show rare silent films, including many that are very hard to find anywhere else, on our website silent-hall-of-fame.org.

Silent Hall of Fame discovered that the UCLA holds in their vaults copies of many rare films featuring our stars, as well as other distinguished silent era personalities.  These films have not seen the eyes of the public for a very long time.

We asked the UCLA to let us borrow these films so that we can show them to everybody interested in films from the Silent Era. The UCLA informed us that it has instituted a policy to charge an access fee of $ 5,000 per title (feature film).

We are asking the public to support our request to borrow these films and show them on our website silent-hall-of-fame.org if the UCLA cannot make these films available to the public.

We are also asking the public to comment how it feels about UCLA's access fee of $ 5,000 and about losing the chance, probably forever, to see rare films that exist only in single copies in the UCLA archives.

Please understand that this is YOUR petition. YOU, the silent film lovers of the world, will benefit if the petition is successful and will be able to see many rare silent masterpieces that have been locked in vaults for generations.

Below are the stars and their films that we want to show on our website to the silent movie lovers of the world, or write a movie review and post pictures (for the films that are still copyrighted). Please note that the films in bold are not available anywhere else in the whole world, except in the UCLA. This incomplete list of the UCLA holdings includes 136 stars in 220 rare films that many silent film lovers won't be able to see in their lifetime if the UCLA does not open their archives to the public.

Here is a very efficient way to help Silent Hall of Fame:

Many major employers have programs that match their employees' donations to charitable organizations like Silent Hall of Fame. Such employers are big banks like Bank of America and US Bank, and large companies such as Chevron, Microsoft, etc. If you work for one of these employers and you donate to Silent Hall of Fame your tax-deductible contribution will be doubled and will go a long way towards helping your favorite silent star to receive better public recognition. Here is a list of Companies that Match Donations and/or Volunteer Hours.
