    Silent Hall of Fame invites all classic film lovers to see our award-winning documentary.
    The purpose of the film is to let the public know about Silent Hall of Fame and its efforts to restore the legacy and bring belated recognition to distinguished silent film personalities who have not been rewarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
    We envision this film as the initial step that will bring the mission of Silent Hall of Fame to a broader audience and gain more supporters. We intend to create a feature biographical documentary in the near future, as soon as the necessary funds become available.
    You can become a part of this effort by making a tax-deductible contribution to help your favorite silent star receive belated recognition and glory.

Our purpose is to preserve the names and legacy of all distinguished silent movie personalities, which have made a major contribution to the industry and the world, but do not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Silent Hall of Fame will have a great membership of such stars, suggested by our esteemed contributors. We will do everything possible to bring all these stars full public recognition. Below are just some of the things that we do to accomplish our goals:

• We educate the public of the great legacy of silent movie stars through this website.
• We talk to movie industry professionals about silent movie personalities and the importance of their legacy for the history of movie art and art in general.
• We research film memorabilia stores for silent films that are not available on DVD, for silent film stills and for star photos and portraits.
• We research domestic and international film archives for silent films that are not available on DVD.
• We locate silent films that are not available on DVD and make steps to acquire them and make them available to the broad public.
• If a certain film is located and there is a need to verify the copyright holder(s), we take steps to do that and pay the respective fees.
• We pay all the fees required by an archive in possession of the copy related to transferring it to a digital form and shipping it to us.
• We write to the Library of Congress urging them to help repatriate silent films that we have identified in foreign archives. Specifically, the British Film Institute holds the only known copy in the word of the film "Fools of Fashion" (1926), but has refused to make a copy available to Silent Hall of Fame.
• We write to Warner urging them to release on DVD the silent films that they keep in their vaults for years, without allowing silent movie fans to see them, and to make copies to Silent Hall of Fame. Specifically, Warner keeps copies of the wonderful and critically acclaimed comedy "Rookies" (1927), as well as "Detectives" (1928).
• We write to AMPAS urging them to help make a deal with Lobster Films and grant to Silent Hall of Fame a copy of the film The Wall Street Whiz (1925), which is now in their possession.
• We petition the UCLA, urging them to release the public domain silent films that they keep in their vaults for years to Silent Hall of Fame so we can show them to the public.
• In our search for silent films that are unavailable right now we search advertisements and post advertisements in specialized movie newspapers and magazines, such as "Classic images".
• We search and establish contact with distinguished silent movie writers and historians, who have contributed to preserving the names of silent movie stars in past decades. We talk to such writers and historians to gain a valuable insight about their interviews with illustrious silent stars, all of which have now passed away, so we are unable to speak with them. One such distinguished person is Richard Lamparski, a renowned writer and radio show host of the 60's and 70's.
• We search and establish contact with descendants and relatives of silent movie stars for additional insights and information that can help in the fight for their public recognition. Specifically, we have talked to relatives of Marceline Day, Alice Day, Joe Roberts and Helen Holmes.
• We search and establish contact with Hollywood movie industry insiders to gain knowledge about the inner workings of the various rewards processes.
• As we grow stronger thanks to your generous financial support, we will start nominating the most noble, illustrious and distinguished stars on our website, one by one, for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

There is much that you can do to help us here at Silent Hall of Fame. Below are just some of the ways that you can contribute to our success. Please remember that our success is your success, too. By helping us you will realize your own dreams of having your favorite star receive respect, love and public recognition.

• You can make a tax-deductible contribution to help us find and show to you the films of your beloved star(s), and support our fight to preserve the name and legacy of your favorite silent movie personality for future generations. You can do this either by credit card, using the "Donate" button, or mailing a check to the address on our Contact Us page. Our team of volunteers works long hours to promote our mission.  We do not get paid salaries, but there are many expenses that we have to cover: rent, utilities, insurance, fees, gas, postage, office supplies, website maintenance and support, band fees, movie acquisition fees, such as copyright check fees, access fees and transfer fees.  We can't succeed without your support. 
• Here are examples of our film expenses, for which we need your help:
       We discovered that the EYE Film Institute in the Netherlands has the only copy in the world of the film Under the Black Eagle (1928), but has asked for $8,000 to make a digital copy on DVD.  We need your help to fund the repatriation of this film so that we can show it to the public for free.   
      We also discovered that the National Archive in Paris France has the only copy in the world of the films Indiscreet Corrine (1917) and The Spite Bride (1919), but has asked for $6,000 to make a digital copy on DVD.  We need your help to fund the repatriation of these films so that we can show them to the public for free. 
      The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has 60 films freaturing the stars of Silent Hall of Fame.  Their price is $5,000 for each feature film.  We need your help to fund the acquisition of these films so that we can show them to the public.
       The Library of Congress has many films with our stars, and charges $1,200 for each feature film.  We need your help to fund the acquisition of these films so that we can show them to the public.
       All these finds were the result of our initial research.  As we expand the scope of our investigation we will locate many more lost and misplaced masterpieces. 
• We are asking our users to help us find some rare films so that we can show them for free on our website.  The list of films that we are looking for is posted under the Free Movies top menu item in an article entitled Help Us Find These Films.
• We need volunteers to do internet research.  This is a win-win situation both for us and for you.  For those who have yet to start a full-time job,  volunteer work counts as job experience and we will be happy to provide a work reference.  For those who are between jobs, working as a volunteer is a great way to fill gaps in the work history.  For those who are retired, volunteer work is a great way to support your favorite silent star.
• If you are a descendant or a relative of any of our stars, or if you know the whereabouts of such descendant or relative, please contact us.  We would like to discuss with you how we can bring recognition to our stars in a joint effort.
• You can spread the word about Silent Hall of Fame and its efforts to bring back the names and legacy of silent movie stars back from oblivion: talk to your friends, neighbors, colleagues, associates and put a nice word about us in your blogs, panels, forums and discussion boards.
• You can contribute to building this site by sending us photos of your favorite star(s).
• You can volunteer to write a biographical article for your favorite star(s).

• You can make suggestions to us which films of your favorite star(s) that are not available on DVD you would like us to look for in domestic and international archives.
• You can send us by mail photos, home movies and other memorabilia that you believe may be important for our research of the legacy of your favorite star(s).

     As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the legacy of our stars we seek to recover their rare films from archives in the USA and round the world. We are happy to report that as a result of our extensive research we have found hundreds of films featuring our stars.  All these films are waiting to be reconnected with the public after many, many years.  Most of the movies have not been seen by any silent movie lovers for three or four generations.
    You can help us acquire these films and show them on our website with your tax-deductible contribution.  This will help your favorite silent movie personalities receive better public recognition, and in the future, improve their chances to get a nomination for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Because none of these films are available for viewing anywhere else, this will also help your favorite website, Silent Hall of Fame, become really unique in the quest to bring back from oblivion the names of your favorite silent movie stars.

The Mission of Silent Hall of Fame is to engage classic film lovers worldwide in an effort to preserve the names of distinguished silent movie stars for future generations by educating the public about their great artistic legacy and working tirelessly to bring them the full public respect and recognition that they rightfully deserve.

What is Silent Hall of Fame?

We are a dedicated team of volunteer silent movie enthusiasts committed to bringing the names and legacy of many distinguished pioneers of motion pictures back from oblivion. We promote specifically the artistic achievements of formerly illustrious personalities from the silent age of movies, which have made a major contribution to the industry and the world but do not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

We are tired of hearing slogans like "Give Shirley Mason her star", or "Give Marceline Day her star".  Appeals like that are not enough any more. We believe that the time has come to stop talking about it and start doing something about it. We realize that the road ahead may have many challenges, but we are full of determination to forge ahead, because we know that this is the right thing to do.

We believe that the current generation of actors and actresses stand on the shoulders of all those magnificent stars of the past, who worked in difficult conditions without technical tricks to create masterpieces of movie art.  And we believe that many silent pioneers have yet to earn the full public respect, love and recognition that they so rightfully deserve.  This is exactly what we aim to achieve. 

We also believe that the public has the full legitimate right to see the lost and forgotten masterpieces of the Silent Era.  We will defend and promote this right by doing everything possible to recover these masterpieces from the hidden vaults, bring them out into the open, and show them to the world audiences, where they belong.

Why Silent Hall of Fame?

• Silent Hall of Fame refers to the silent period of movies.
• These stars are silent because they are gone and can't speak for themselves so we have to do it for them.
• These stars are silent, like in "silenced", because they have been denied proper recognition.
• In the end, even though it is an unofficial (silent) hall of fame, we do say that these stars deserve fame and glory as the officially glorified ones.

Of course, in our Silent Hall of Fame there will be no place for all those actors, actresses and directors that already have Hollywood stars or Oscars.  We will take care of the overlooked, the under-rated, the under-respected, the under-recognized and the all-but-forgotten stars that we believe have made more than enough "contribution to the motion pictures industry" and should be equally respected and rewarded with fame and recognition.

    With a letter from August 1, 2013 the Internal Revenue Service informed us that we are exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and that contributions to Silent Hall of Fame are tax deductible.  Silent Hall of Fame is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts.

    Silent Hall of Fame is further classified as a public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CANADIAN DONORS ABOUT TAX DEDUCTIBILITY OF FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS

ALL FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS AND GIFTS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE TO THE DONORS.

    Three of the stars of Silent Hall of Fame were born in Canada: actress Florence Lawrence, director John Robertson and actress, writer and director Nell Shipman.  As with all our stars, we show their films and aim to bring them the full public recognition that they deserve, including stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  This is why we expect that Canadian silent film lovers will support Silent Hall of Fame.

    We also show films with the brightest star of all - Canadian Mary Pickford.  Furthermore, some sources argue that another star of Silent Hall of Fame, Florence La Badie, was born in Canada, and even call her "a Canadian Movie Icon".

    With a letter from November 20, 2013 the Canada Revenue Agency informed us that Silent Hall of Fame qualifies under Article XXI(1) of the Canada – United States Income Tax Convention (1980) for exemption from Canadian withholding tax. We have been told by the Canada Revenue Agency that if a prospective Canadian donor has further questions about the tax deductibility of contributions to Silent Hall of Fame, they should contact their International Tax Services Office (tel.:1-855-284-5946) and inquire with identification number 172746.  The Canada Revenue Agency is in possession of the Articles of Incorporation of Silent Hall of Fame and the IRS letter granting us a tax exempt and public charity status.
